Spier

SpierWatch a video about Spier

With a fascinating and rich history that spans more than three centuries, Spier Wine Estate was one of the first wine farms to be established in 1692 in the heart of the Cape Winelands about 10 km outside of Stellenbosch.

Set on the banks of the Eerste River with breathtaking views of the Stellenbosch Mountains, this award-winning wine farm is not only one of the oldest but also most developed wine estates, boasting beautifully restored Cape Dutch heritage buildings and South Africa’s oldest dated wine cellar. Today this vibrant wine estate celebrates South African culture through wine, food and the arts, as well as offering a host of other activities including picnics, a bird of prey exhibition entitled Eagle Encounters, several restaurants plus an amphitheatre which hosts the annual Spier Performing Arts Festival. One of the most awarded wineries in the country, the Spier Hotel and conference facilities also offer visitors one of the greatest Winelands getaways.

Long regarded as a sacred site for the Hottentot peoples and part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, the land on which the farm stands offers a unique selection of succulent species and plants. The estate also has a strong sustainability vision, seeking to balance its commercial success with social and environmental programs. Spier is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative, is organically certified and adheres to the Integrated Production of Wine criteria.

This wine estate is all about its award-winning wines, healthy living, the arts, farm-to-table food and spectacular Winelands scenery.
