Ken Forrester

Ken ForresterKen Forrester

Situated in the heart of South Africa’s illustrious wine region Stellenbosch, on the picturesque Helderberg Mountain slopes, Ken Forrester’s vineyards are known as the home of Chenin Blanc and many other award-winning fine wines. Exported around the world and winning numerous international and national awards and accolades, Ken Forrester’s top quality wines have been handcrafted to perfection to provide excellent value and complement a variety of cuisines.

Cutting his teeth in the hotel industry in 1977 in Sol Kerzner’s early days with Southern Sun after a three-year Hotel Management course in Johannesburg, Ken went on to specialize in the restaurant trade by buying a share of one of the top eateries in Johannesburg called Gatriles, as well as a string of other top-rated restaurants. He was later elected as the Chairman of the Federated Hospitality Association of South Africa (FEDHASA).

In 1993, Ken together with his wife Teresa and a young family set their hearts one of Stellenbosch’s historic vineyards. Originally promised to Frederich Boot of Gotha in 1689 as Zandberg, this exquisite farm complete with a historic Cape Dutch homestead had stood uninhabited and derelict for many years. While Teresa set about restoring the house, Ken together with top winemaker and good friend Martin Meinert started their quest to produce a Chenin Blanc that would rival the best in the world. Since then in a short 19 years, the growth of the brand has been meteoric with Ken Forrester wines being poured at the opening of The Scottish Parliament, as well as at Nelson Mandela’s 85th birthday.

A small highly dedicated team sees to the farming, while Ken does all the marketing and sales, traveling around the globe promoting South Africa and its many fine wines.
