About the winemaker: David Finlayson
The Glen Carlou vineyards, nestled high on the foothills of the Simonsberg Mountain in Paarl, were established in 1985 by David's father, Walter, a founder member of the CWG.
David joined the business as Cellarmaster in 1994, having travelled the world to gain first hand winemaking experience. He worked vintages in Australia at Peter Lehmann Wines and at the world renowned Château Margaux in Bordeaux, France. Inspired by his father's assiduous legacy building, and by the entrepreneurial spirit of their Swiss partner, Donald Hess, David's love of the Burgundian varieties has manifested itself in the production of world acclaimed Chardonnay and outstanding Syrah, Pinot Noir and Bordeaux style wines.
David owns vineyards in Stellenbosch and together with his father, Walter, has launched the Edgebaston range of wines from this property where the Finlayson family have returned to their winemaking roots.
David is currently MD of Glen Carlou and has overseen the major refurbishment of the winery and tasting areas including a new art collection from Donald Hess.
