Delaire Graff Estate
Delaire Graff lies nestled between majestic mountains on the crest of the spectacular Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch, considered the heart of South Africa’s most historic and celebrated wine region. Founded in 1679 by the Cape’s First Governor Simon van der Stel, Simon brought with him invaluable viticulture expertise, nurturing a wine tradition that has continued to grow throughout the centuries.
In 1982, renowned wine critic and writer John Platter purchased Delaire Graff, then known as Avontuur. Admiring the breathtaking views, Platter decided to rename the farm Delaire Estate, which means "From the Sky”. In 2003, Laurence Graff (Graff Diamonds International’s Chairman) acquired the estate and dreamt of transforming it into one of the most sought-after hospitality, art and wine destinations in the Cape Winelands. Today this dream has become a reality with a state-of-the-art winery, two outstanding restaurants, exclusive lodges, two luxury boutiques and a destination spa.
Delaire Graff’s award-winning wines are created from a very unique terroir. Cooling sea breezes from the Atlantic sweep over the steeply sloping vineyards to produce wines with a rich, fruity intensity. An extended, slow ripening season ensures that this estate produces top-notch clarets and red wines that are elegant and full-bodied with soft tannins. Their white wines capture the harvest’s freshness and their rosé and sparkling wines are simply irresistible. Delaire Graff has also been awarded South Africa’s prestigious First Growth status, which celebrates this country’s most desirable wines on their first pressing.
At Delaire Graaf, African artifacts blend seamlessly with Cape Dutch architecture and original art pieces from Laurence Graff’s personal collection, showcasing some of South Africa’s most celebrated contemporary artists.
