Zonnebloem Chardonnay

Tasty uncomplicated drinking. Zonnebloem Chardonnay

Bright yellow in colour with tinges of green and a bouquet of citrus, vanilla and marmalade. Accessible easy drinking wine with fresh fruit and light wood spices.

The grapes were sourced from low-yield, trellised vineyards in and around Stellenbosch, including Jonkershoek, Stellenbosch Kloof, Koelenhof, Helderberg, Polkadraai and Malmesbury. The average age of the vineyards at the time of harvesting was 19 years.

The grapes were harvested by hand from mid-February to mid-March at from 22 to 24,5 degree Balling. Each vineyard was individually vinified.

Just over half the intake (55%) was fermented in small oak at between 19 and 24 degrees C. The small oak was 50 % new and 50 % second fill. The balance was fermented in stainless steel tanks at between 13 and 15 degrees C. In both instances, the wine was left on the lees for 9 months.
