The first Klipdrift brandy was blended, bottled and sold from the farm Klipdrift near Robertson in January 1938. At first the owner and cellarmaster, JP Marais, made limited quantities of this exclusive brandy available - selling it by means of direct mail order.
Realising that consumers insisted on brand-names, he started marketing Klipdrift Export Brandy to hotels and clubs, thus perpetuating his name as blender and cellar master through the growth of the product.
Today the Klipdrift Distillery in Robertson still practises the quality standards initiated by Kosie Marais. From this humble beginning, Klipdrift Export Brandy has established itself as a leader in the African brandy industry. To this day it is still vat-matured and blended the time-honoured way, to give you the smooth, full-bodied taste of genuine Old Cape Brandy.
Klipdrift is synonymous with generosity and hospitality. No matter where you are, when you open a bottle of Klipdrift the kuier starts right there and then. This phenomenon inspired our new campaign and the payoff: "Make yourself at home".
