Why in 2003 did May de Lencquesaing, then owner of the famous Chateau Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande (a well known classified growth in Bordeaux), purchase the Glenelly Estate in Stellenbosch? Because she believes in the soil, the micro climate and the potential for quality wines in South Africa, as well as continuing the French heritage of wine making in South Africa. So far her gamble has paid off, with American magazine Wine Spectator, as well as many other influential guides, awarding top marks for their wines.

Join Madame’s grandson Nicolas at Vivat Bannhus as he talks you through these wines showcasing a mineral driven Chardonnay and their prestigious age worthy Bordeaux style ‘Grand Vin’s’. Come and see the potential for yourselves!

Featured Winemaker – David Nieuwoudt from Cederberg Private CellarDavid Nieuwoudt from Cederberg Private CellarDavid knew from the start that he wanted to be a winemaker at Dwarsrivier, the farm where he grew up in the Cederberg. At an altitude of more than 1000m above sea level, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest winery.  For the Ghost Corner range which includes the Ghost Corner Semillon 2009 and Ghost Corner Sauvignon Blanc 2010 David sourced the grapes from his property in the upcoming wine growing region of Elim. The Agulhas area being the most southern point in Africa is by far the coldest spot for wine making in Africa. Located so close to the sea, the wind is one of the contributing factors along with low temperatures to producing a naturally low yield with concentrated berries.”

“The climate in Elim was the main reason I started using the grapes from the ward to make exceptional wine” says David.
