Stormhoek is situated in Wellington in a magical valley full of hidden old vine treasures. The Stormhoek range is a blend of fruit from different vineyards and regions. It has had some very good press on its recent release in the UK:
Stormhoek Pinot Grigio 04- Mathew jukes, Wine Column, Daily Mail Weekend Magazine
This Week’s Wine of the Week is 2004 Stormhoek Pinot Grigio, Western Cape, South Africa (£5.99, Thresher). I am delighted to announce that Stormhoek’s new Pinot Grigio is truly amazing. With more depth, intensity and zip than most Italian versions at twice the price, this is likely to become a benchmark wine in your armoury. Chosen to be one of the Top 250 wines in the world in The Wine list 2005, my tasting note reads ‘it pogos on your taste buds’ and that ‘you could spend a week on a Vespa in Friuli and not find a wine as joyous as this’. That sounds about right to me! Cheers.

Stormhoek is no longer a one wine operation. Its now a veritable team with a stunning, juicy Cabernet, an earthy, plumy shiraz, a very fine Rose…this amazing PG and last years top 250 star wine, the Sauvignon Blanc… My chosen Pinot Grigio is positively energetic in the way it pogos on your taste buds.
Stormhoek Rosé 2004, - Mathew Jukes, The Wine List 2005
Western Cape, South Africa (£5.99, Oddbins). Shiraz Pinotage, Cinsault and Muscat, Who’d a thought it? Stormhoek, that’s who! This is a crazy rosé with an irreverent air, that holds two large fingers up to traditionalists and gets away with it. Punk rock rosé never tasted so good.

This weeks WOW
“2004 Stormhoek Rose, Western Cape, South Africa (£5.99, Oddbins).
Jamie Oliver’s five minute wonder (the paprika sirloin steak wrap) has found its match in one of the most rock ‘n’ roll-style wine releases of the year. Made from a hectic blend of Shiraz, Pinotage, Cinsault and Muscat (yes that’s three red grapes and one white for good measure!), Stormhoek rose is a very cool customer indeed. In fact, any spicy dish, whether its surf or turf based, will find a friend for life in my wine of the week. Immediately impactful, you’ll be amazed at what this particular storm is bringing your way!”
“Stormhoek Manifesto”Stormhoek vineyard 2
It isn’t just about the wine.
It doesn’t matter how good the wine is. Making wine requires everything you’ve got, otherwise the exercise is pointless.
It’s not enough to love wine, you have to love the way you make it. All that we do, from start to finish is governed by a set of rules, a mantra, a code of conduct Stormhoek Standards that ensures the best is delivered.
Stormhoek standards are, when taken together, a protocol to ensure the consistency and quality of our wines, carried out in a passionate, responsible and principled manner.
Every little thing we do from vine to bottle effects the ultimate quality of our wine. This is the reason for bringing soil experts from France to work with our growers; engaging in some of the most renowned white wine experts in the world and obsessing about grape yields, clones and orientation of our vineyards. We must do hundreds of things right, 365 days of the year!
Or else we have nothing.
In the vineyard we actively guide the decisions and actions of our growers with our ‘wine skills’ training programme teaching them the Stormhoek way. Ensuring farmers understand how different one grape variety is from the next. We farm responsibly keeping the use of pesticides and herbicides to an absolute minimum.
Stormhoek’s home a mystical valley just outside Wellington, in the Western Cape is home to dozens of families, as well as a ground breaking community education project. Stormhoek isn’t a label and bank account, its people, place. heart and soul.
Finally in the bottle Stormhoek Standards are about capturing the freshness and vitality of South Africa. Our wines buzz with excitement and life. Whites and rosés that are fresh, crisp, zesty, buoyant, vibrant and enticing. Reds that are jammy, satisfying and plump. All the styles are relevant, modern and attractive to consumers all delivering outstanding value.
